How to Declare a Major or Minor

Now that you have decided to declare a major or minor within the CSRE related programs, please see Margarita Ibarra, CSRE student services coordinator, in building 240, room 110.

  • Pick up or download a major or minor declaration proposal
  • Schedule an appointment with your general advisor (chair of your major or minor)
  • When meeting with your advisor, you will discuss major and or minor requirements and opportunities, as well as how to select a faculty mentor
  • The major or minor declaration forms must be approved and signed by the chair of your program
  • A copy of the declaration form must be on file in the CSRE undergraduate office
  • Copies of current and projected core and thematic course lists are available in the CSRE undergraduate office to help you plan your major or minor.

After completing the above departmental requirements, you will want to make a formal declaration to the Registrar’s Office. To declare a CSRE related major or minor, log onto Axess - http://axess.stanford.edu . They will forward your major or minor declaration request to CSRE for department approval. When your declaration for the major or minor is approved, the Registrar’s Office will advise you of the approval.

If you are declaring a major in Chicana and Chicano Studies or Comparative Studies, please note that a thematic concentration must be declared and approved by the program chair in spring quarter of your junior year. Seniors must have final thematic concentrations declared and approved by program chairs in autumn quarter to meet graduation requirements.

The faculty and staff of the IDP in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity are pleased to welcome you to the growing fold of CSRE majors and minors. Please check in with any questions. Consult the student bulletin boards (located in building 240) often for information about upcoming opportunities for our majors and minors.
