Dan-el Padilla Peralta came the US legally with his family. Together they left Santo Domingo behind, but life in New York City was harder than they imagined. Their visas lapsed, and Dan-el's father returned home. But Dan-el's courageous mother was determined to make a better life for her bright sons. Without papers, the family faced tremendous obstacles; nevertheless, Dan-el went to undergrad at Princeton and STANFORD for his Ph.D. in Classics.
Dan-el Padilla Peralta is Assistant Professor of Classics, Associated Faculty in the Program in Latino Studies, and Faculty Fellow in Service and Civic Engagement at Princeton University. He researches and writes on Roman religious and social history, classical reception in the US and Latin America, and migratory politics.
