Selfies, swag, food, and community!

The 2024-2025 Open House brought together over 150 colleagues and friends in Building 360, marking an inspiring start to the academic year. The Faculty Director of the Research Institute Alfredo Artiles (GSE) welcomed back long-time affiliates and introduced new faculty, staff, and students to its vision, people, and programs.

Attendees were keen to learn more about the Institute’s cornerstone initiatives, including the Faculty Seminar Series, Chautauquas, and the much-anticipated October 16th Lunchtime Talk by Elizabeth Reese (Law), moderated by Matt Snipp (Sociology). Students showed particular interest in the Graduate Fellows Program and Mini-Grants, while faculty engaged in discussions about the Faculty Research Networks and Fellows Programs. The event underscored a shared enthusiasm for expanding collaborative networks across the university, with many offering to contribute by writing stories, posting to social media, and organizing events that will showcase the strength of the Institute's community and attract new scholars.

A highlight of the event was the popular photo booth, which drew a large crowd of curious students and future collaborators, while also serving as a meeting point for familiar faces among faculty, staff, and students. The enthusiasm throughout the afternoon fostered interdisciplinary communication and strengthened connections across the university.
