How to Declare (Undergraduates)

STEP 1: Review degree requirements

Review the pertinent Major or Minor requirements on our Bulletin page under the Programs tab. Map out your coursework to ensure that you will be able to complete all of the requisite courses for a Major or Minor in a Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity program. 

Email Winni Ni (winnini [at] (winnini[at]stanford[dot]edu)), Student Services Officer, or Raquel Navarro Calara (raquelnc [at] (raquelnc[at]stanford[dot]edu)), Academic Programs Coordinator, if you have any questions about posted requirements. Note that students are bound to the requirements posted at the time of their Declaration; requirements are not retroactively imposed. 

STEP 2: Fill out the CCSRE Declaration Survey

Fill out our Declaration Survey.

STEP 3: Fill out our Major/Minor Declaration Form

Once you have reviewed the major/minor requirements and filled out the Declaration Survey, please fill out our Major/Minor Declaration Form.

STEP 4: Meet with our Student Services Officer

After completing the form, you will be contacted by our Student Services Officer, who will send you a course proposal form and set up a meeting with you. Attend the meeting so that you can: 

  • Review your a major/minor proposal form
  • Ask any questions you have about course requirements
  • Feel confident in your course plan!
STEP 5: Apply to the Major/Minor on Axess

After you meet with the CCSRE Academic Programs team, go into Axess and officially apply to the CCSRE major/minor of your choice. Note that we will not approve your declaration until you have completed CSRE 100: Introduction to Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity.
