Aala Abdelgadir

Aala Abdelgadir is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University, where she completed a thesis on government regulation of the Muslim identity in France. Prior to joining the program, she worked as a research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. At Stanford, she seeks to examine the effects of ethnic politics on political accountability and public service provision in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Other research interests include the politicization of the Muslim identity in Europe, gender politics in the Middle East, and the politics of economic development.
