Andrea Ixchíu Hernández

Andrea Ixchíu Hernández is Maya K’iche’ women, journalist, land protector, human rights activist, and a self-professed geek. She was the youngest woman elected as a tribal leader in her highland community, where as President of the Natural Resources Board, she was in charge of protecting their ancestral forest of Totonicapán, Guatemala from extractive industry incursions. Andrea is a Nobel Women’s Initiative Fellow, A Bertha Foundation Fellow, was awarded with the Sakharov Prize Fellowship which honors individuals and groups of people who have dedicated their lives to the defense of human rights and freedom of thought. She's a member of PANAL and Culture Hack, where she's building methods, tools and techniques to track, research and intervene in cultural narratives. She loves to build insurrectionary open source narratives to defend life and territory while dismantling systems of oppression.
