Bethany Nichols is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology, conducting research in the areas of social stratification, social psychology, sociology of education, and gender.  One of her current research projects examines how students' class backgrounds and forms of cultural capital influence how they are evaluated and perceived during the college admissions process. Before coming to Stanford, Bethany worked in New York City as a lead kindergarten teacher for Success Academy, where her kindergarteners ranked first in the network on the end of year mathematics exam.  She attended Cornell University for her undergraduate work, double majoring in Sociology and Government.
