Clarissa Gutierrez is a Ph.D. student at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. The teaching of race is central to her interdisciplinary scholarship, as she researches how universities talk about race, how diversity courses influence student activism and system justification, and how ethnic studies impacts belonging. She is committed to centering race in the classroom and cultivating students' critical consciousness, and seeks to strengthen her pedagogy as an anti-racist educator. She is honored to join the inaugural cohort of CRC Teaching Race Fellows and looks forward to learning how we can confront oppressive systems in our teaching and beyond.
