Project title: Gentrification and Residential Instability in Oakland

Project description: As a research assistant at the Changing Cities Research Lab (CCRL), my work focuses on the project entitled Gentrification and Residential Instability in Oakland where I aim to understand the effects of gentrification and housing affordability on residential instability as well as help inform policy solutions that promote equity amidst urban transformations in Oakland. This summer, I am evaluating the Keep People Housed (KPH) program, a homelessness prevention pilot initiative administered by Bay Area Community Services (BACS) in collaboration with the City of Oakland. My responsibilities include conducting interviews with KPH applicants, encouraging the completion of online surveys, analyzing survey data, and coding interview data to produce deliverables for policymakers and other stakeholders. Additionally, I am involved in survey outreach and the analysis of survey and interview data for the Race and Residential Instability in Oakland project, a study examining racial disparities in residential instability among low-income residents in Oakland. This project has significantly influenced the design of KPH and shares the goal of providing research-driven policy solutions to improve residential stability and guide future homelessness prevention efforts in the Bay Area.
