Helen Webley-Brown

Helen Webley-Brown is a PhD student in Sociology. Helen's research interests include social control, racial inequality, and AI in local government services with a focus on police departments and public housing authorities. Her previous work has explored data minimization and pretrial electronic monitoring. At Stanford, she plans to examine how relationships between technology companies and municipal institutions (re)produce ethno-racial and class-based inequalities in public service provision and political participation.

Before coming to Stanford, Helen was concurrently a Research Officer at LSE’s Phelan United States Centre and a Research Assistant at the Oxford Internet Institute. She holds an S.M. in Political Science from MIT and an A.B. in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis. Helen is a proud alum of the US-UK Fulbright Commission's Sutton Trust US Program.
