Project title: Reclaiming the Narrative: AI Storytelling for South African Artifacts
Project description: This project explores how generative AI can assist in reclaiming cultural narratives by giving voice to historically silenced artifacts. Under the faculty guidance of Professor Grant Parker, I partnered with Iziko Museums of South Africa to design an AI pipeline that generates emotionally resonant "object autobiographies" for 3D-scanned artifacts from the colonial and apartheid eras. The goal was to center storytelling through the eyes of the objects themselves, bringing history alive for young learners in museum settings. The project also included the design of a metadata system and cultural sensitivity rubric to guide narrative generation, and culminated in a working prototype of an immersive, interactive virtual museum.
