Jonathan Leal is a doctoral candidate in the Program in Modern Thought and Literature. He received a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of North Texas while also working as a percussion performer, music educator, and composer. At Stanford, he researches race and ethnicity through intersections of literary criticism, ethnomusicology, and performance studies, focusing on the counterpoint between Chican@ and Latin@ literatures, popular musics, and cultural histories in the Américas.
