Martabel Wasserman

Martabel Wasserman is a PhD candidate in Art and Art History. Her dissertation examines the history of the carceral landscape through representations of Alcatraz. She received her MFA from UC Irvine and BA from Harvard University. Solo art exhibitions include "Rethinking Ecology" as a part of the Museum of Art and History's CommonGround Biennial in Santa Cruz and "Seashell Aesthetics" at Human Resources in Los Angeles. Wasserman has curated several exhibitions at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA, where she previously worked as the Curator of Community Engagement. Other curatorial projects have been exhibited at Human Resources, CA Cinefamily Theater, Maloney Fine Arts in and the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives. She has published in The Burlington Magazine, The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest and Simon and Fraser's Comparative Media Arts Journal.
