Michelle Lam

Michelle Lam is a first-year PhD student in Computer Science. Working in the HCI Group, she is interested in understanding the lived experiences and contextual expertise of users as they interact with AI-powered systems in domains ranging from online advertising to photo-editing and dance. She is interested in exploring how we might counter the harms of computational systems with human-centered design approaches that empower everyday users to reshape the design of these systems. Michelle was a Siebel Scholar and served as Vice President for Stanford’s Society of Women Engineers. She holds an MS and BS in Computer Science from Stanford.
