Sarah Derbew

Sarah Derbew was a Fellow in Harvard's Society of Fellows and earned her Ph.D. in Classics at Yale University. Her dissertation, entitled “The Metatheater of Blackness: Looking at and through Black Skin Color in Ancient Greek Literature and Art,” presents an interconnected argument about the capacity for critical and self-reflexive theorizations of race and cultural identity in the “Greek” Mediterranean from the fifth century BCE to the third century CE. 

Professor Derbew joined Stanford as part of the Faculty Development Initiative in 2020.
