Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu was RICSRE fellow and designer of twelve different CSRE courses since 2002. Recipient of two teaching awards, he also lectures in Stanford School of Medicine, Program in Health and Human Performance. Founder of Heartfulness Lab and president of Nichibei Care, organizations dedicated to enhancing mindful well-being and leadership in Japan and the U.S. Recent books include From Mindfulness to Heartfulness: Transforming Self and Systems with Compassion (Berrett-Koehler, 2018), The Stanford Mindfulness Classroom (Kodansha, 2016), and When Half is Whole (Stanford University Press, 2012). He received a doctorate in psychology from Harvard University and was a tenured professor of education at the University of Tokyo.
