CCSRE Stanford Libraries Access Fellowship
The Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE) and Stanford University Libraries offer library access fellowships for faculty from accredited U.S. colleges and universities to conduct research relating to studies in race and ethnicity using Stanford University Libraries. The Stanford University Library System is one of the largest academic and research libraries in North America. See here for a list of subject areas.
Upcoming Grant Period and Access Type
The 2024 Stanford Libraries Access Fellowships provide remote access to Stanford Libraries' online database from June 1 to November 30, 2024, with an optional 1-2 week visit to Stanford campus scheduled during the grant period to use the Libraries' collections in person. Grantees receive a $500 stipend, and non-local grantees participating in the optional visit to Stanford are eligible for up to an additional $2000 travel stipend. Orientations to using the Stanford Libraries online database and in-person collections will be provided.
Eligibility
- Ph.D. from an accredited U.S. college or university (M.A. or equivalent for community college faculty)
- Current faculty appointment at an accredited U.S. college or university, including Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) as designated by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Research and teaching interest in race and ethnic studies

Application Process
The online application includes the following:
- STATEMENT OF INTEREST (300-500 words), which should address the following:
- Topic of research relating to race and ethnic studies
- Plan of materials that will be consulted
- Description of how your research will enhance your curriculum and impact your students
- CURRENT CV
- BUDGET (optional; non-local fellows) Proposed travel costs to be covered by the stipend
- LETTER OF SUPPORT from department chair (uploaded separately)

Selection Process
A committee composed of CCSRE and Stanford Libraries faculty and academic staff review the applications.
Deliverables
Within 14 days following the completion of the access period, grantees are required to submit to CCSRE a report detailing the work carried out during the grant period. Reports are provided to the Mellon Foundation for grant reporting purposes.
Stipend
- Grantees receive a $500 stipend.
- Non-local faculty fellows participating in an optional 1-2 week visit to Stanford campus are eligible for up to an additional $2000 travel stipend.
- 80% of grant funds will be awarded at the start of the grant period. The remaining 20% will be awarded upon submission of the grant report.
- Travel funds may ONLY be used for airfare, lodging, and/or ground transportation.
