Abstract

This project investigates how Latin American Institutes of Agroecology (IALAs) build solidarity for a multi-national Latin-American agricultural movement through constructivist pedagogy. It takes a look at the barriers that exist for building autonomous movements that include and affirm the beliefs and goals of both indigenous and non-indigenous groups. Focusing on IALA Sembradoras de Esperanzas (Sowers of Hope), a women-only institution located in Chile, the project looks at the processes by which Sembradoras de Esperanzas engages local peasant and indigenous communities in the co-construction of agroecological curriculum, educational goals, and the broader movement's objectives.
