Abstract

Combining personal history with archival research, this project explores how Latinx communities in San Francisco utilize "artivism" and education to resist gentrification and systemic erasure. By digitizing artifacts like a 1978 Sandinista solidarity postcard and creating an interactive HTML map of the Mission and Geneva districts, I document the spatial and transnational stakes of Latinx existence. The work bridges Ethnic Studies and digital media to argue that communal storytelling—from lowrider culture to bilingual pedagogy—serves as a vital tool for claiming space in a "progressive dystopia." Ultimately, this digital archive preserves a history of resilience, ensuring that the visual and linguistic expressions of the city’s Latinx neighborhoods remain indelible against the forces of displacement.
