Abstract

Le Falta Chile: Home Gardening Among Mexican-Immigrant Communities in South Central Los Angeles explores the ways in which the home gardens of Mexican immigrants act as spaces of transgression and radical resistance, addressing the topics of foodways and systems and how people navigate oppressive spatial and architectural conditions in South Central Los Angeles through subversive aesthetic-building practices. In conversation with other pieces of literature and engaging with theories of space, citizenship, and poetics, the project posits a new way of thinking about and acknowledging the often overlooked, micro-ecosystems maintained within and around the homes of Mexican immigrants in South Central Los Angeles.
