Passage: A Reading and Conversation with Khary Lazarre-White

During this reading and conversation, Khary Lazarre-White will discuss his work as a social justice advocate and founder of the award-winning youth development organization The Brotherhood-Sister Sol, which works to empower Black and Latinx youth in New York City.

He will read an excerpt from his novel Passage, which tells the story of Warrior, a young Black man navigating police brutality, structural racism, and the streets of Harlem and Brooklyn.

The Brotherhood-Sister Sol has earned national recognition for their evidence-based model, receiving an array of awards, including from Oprah Winfrey, Ford Foundation, New York Women’s Foundation, Fund for the City of New York, the New York State Department of Education. Khary has been named to Newsweek and The Daily Beast’s List of “30 Leaders in the Fight for Black Men.”

This event will be moderated by John R. Rickford, J.E. Wallace Sterling Professor of Humanities, Department of Linguistics and by courtesy, Education; and Bass University Fellow in Undergraduate Education.
