Twenty-two students participated in fellowship programs this summer, which connected them with community and civic organizations for an intensive summer experience ranging from work with local non-profits to projects in their home communities.

At the symposium students shared presentations detailing their reflections and findings, representing disciplines in the social sciences, humanities, public health, and the sciences.

"The symposium was a great opportunity for students to formally share the important work they each did over the summer," said Rigoberto Marquéz, Associate Director of Academic Programs and Community Engaged Learning. Marquéz, who advised the students as they prepared for the symposium, continued, "Some are continuing their projects through this academic year. We look forward to the leadership roles they will continue to pursue on campus and in the broader community."

"Being able to collaborate on a project for expanding Ethnic Studies in Stockton School with other first-gen students of color from Stockton and other community organization is so inspiring," said Celine after her presentation. She added, "I hope our initiative leads to community-based Ethnic Studies curriculum in Stockton Schools."
