Jaylen Pittman is a PhD student in the Graduate School of Education, where he concentrates in the Learning Sciences and Technology Design (LSTD) and Developmental and Psychological Sciences (DAPS) programs. His research employs theories and methods from computational psycholinguistics, natural language processing, cognitive neuroscience, social psychology, and AI. Currently, his work compares the language processing capabilities of humans and foundation models (e.g. BERT) as they encounter implicit biases in text. A linguist by training, Jaylen earned his bachelors and master’s degrees in linguistics from Yale University and the University of California (Santa Barbara), respectively.
